Philip Martyn Serrell is an English auctioneer, antiques expert and television presenter.Serrell was born in Kidderminster, Worcestershire and attended the Royal Grammar School in Worcester, where he was a schoolmate of the Pakistani cricket captain Imran Khan. Serrell played both cricket and rugby for the school, prior to his attendance at, and graduation from, Loughborough College of PhysicalCharming stories and anecdotes of a County Auctioneer. I whizzed through this book as it was made up of short chapters about different characters and their 'valuables' Each chapter different and quite entertaining. I did actually chuckle a couple of times (which is something for me)as the read is funny as well as fascinating. You don't need to know who the author is, I don't! He is supposed to have been on day time TV here in the UK but I don't watch the TV very much anyway.He has written a
Liked this one, although I should have read it before his second book (Sold to the man with the tin leg) as I thought this was the second book...I've likened his previous book to the Gervais Phinn or the Mike Pannett of the antiques world except his books are not set in Yorkshire.Some interesting and funny tales.This is a "nice" book, with some heart warming endings.

Well known TV face from all those antiques programmes is Mr Serrell.I was expecting more an autobiographical work, but this book from 2005 is simply a recounting of various characters that the author came across over 20 years in the profession (is it a profession ?Easy pick up read. If you know of Philip Serrell and his wry sense of humour, that comes across in the book.Worth a rumble.
