Ilustration To Books Baise-Moi

Baise-Moi is one of the most controversial French novels of recent years, a punk fantasy that takes female rage to its outer limits. Now the basis for a hit underground film which was banned in France, Baise-Moi is a searing story of two women on a rampage that is part Thelma and Louise, part Viking conquest. Manu and Nadine have had all they can take. Manu has been brutally raped, and determines it's not worth leaving anything precious lying vulnerable -- including her very self. She teams up with Nadine, a nihilist who watches pornography incessantly, and they enact their own version of les vols et les viols (rape and pillage) -- they lure men sexually, use them up, then rob and kill them. Drawing from the spiky cadences of the Sex Pistols and the murderous eroticism of Georges Bataille or Dennis Cooper, Baise-Moi is a shocking, accomplished, and truly unforgettable novel.

Crit Regarding Books Baise-Moi
Rather oversimplified, it could have gone more in depth.

Meet Nadine and Manu, 2 french young girls that "accidentally" embark on a journey that will forever change their lives. And the lives of many, many others that accidentally cross their path. Meet Nadine and Manu, that could actuallybe Thelma and Louise if the later were alcoholics, drug addicts, turned tricks, and had been violently raped.Meet Nadine and Manu and just hope that you survive to tell the story.

Trashy, exploitive, pornographic and ultra-violent. You could call this Thelma and Louise on steroids, without all the good parts. The story is basically about two women, one a prostitute, the other a slacker, who, after suffering injustice and abuse, and murdering a couple of people, meet each other and decide to hit the road to go on a spree of sex and extreme violence. I'm not quite sure what Despentes's intent was with this novel, nor the film that came out after. The women seem to chose

I don't even know. Drinking, fucking, killing. No depth whatsoever. Meh.

Thelma and Louise this is not.

I wish I could like this book more, however, I feel it is vulgar for vulgar's sake without much more substance to be offered than shock-value.Shock value is something I expected in the book, but I didn't anticipate it to be the book's only quality, and in some people's opinion (not mine) it IS the redeeming quality of the book. To state that the vulgarity of this read adds to the feminist movement is misplaced and detracts from the truth of the female experience, painting women as revenge-driven

Disturbing, dirty, gritty and violent? Not for the faint of heart? Absofuckinglutely!. But Despentes just doesn't hold it all together as a novel because she simply goes for the shocks for the sake of being shocking and does little else. As a result I couldn't care for anyone, victims or perpetrators, and ended up skimming the last third. I wouldn't recommend this to any women, unless they don't mind their novels to be extreme, which this most definitely is. At least it was better than the
